Direct answer

Smoke Moth is an Uncommon Fields of Mistria insect found on Lava Caves floors 61–79. The current reference gives no season, weather, or time restriction. It can be donated to the Insect Wing and is needed for Breaking the Ruins Seal, so keep the first copy instead of selling it after a single run.

Where the Smoke Moth appears

Enter the Lava Caves and search floors 61–79. It is not a town, farm, or seasonal surface insect, so repeated searching in those areas will not improve the odds.

The encounter is available across seasons, weather, and time in the current reference. The useful restriction is reaching and checking the correct floor range.

Use a floor-and-refresh route

Unlock the relevant mine route, use the elevator when available, and check rooms with insect spawns. If the Smoke Moth is not present, leave and refresh the area rather than wandering through unrelated floors.

Keep inventory space and a safe return route. The Lava Caves can cost time and health, so a single insect should not turn into an unplanned deep run.

Museum and quest priority

Donate the first Smoke Moth to the Insect Wing only after checking whether Breaking the Ruins Seal currently needs it. The item has both collection and quest value.

After the museum and quest requirements are complete, duplicates can be used according to your current plan. Do not sell the only copy when the location is far from the farm.

Why you may not find it

Check that the elevator target is inside floors 61–79 and that the insect point has actually refreshed. A caught insect in your bag or chest can also make the map look empty.

If several clean runs fail, record the floor, version, quest state, and Mod list. Test a pure client before concluding that the item is unavailable in the save.

Smoke Moth as a gift

Smoke Moth is Disliked by most residents; Dell, Dozy, Henrietta, and Luc list it as Neutral in the current reference. Rarity does not make an insect a universal Loved gift.

After the museum and quest are complete, duplicates can support a Terrarium or be sold. Keep one spare before testing a preference because the Lava Caves route is slow to repeat.
