How to Cook in Fields of Mistria
Use the Inn kitchen first, then prepare a recipe, its ingredients, and the required Cooking and Kitchen levels.

Use the Inn kitchen first
The Sleeping Dragon Inn is the convenient early kitchen. Interact with it to open the Cooking menu; you do not need to buy a complete home kitchen on the first day, which lets early Tesserae go toward seeds, tools, and storage.
Choose an unlocked recipe and read the ingredient, dish level, and availability panel. Ingredients can come from your inventory and eligible connected storage, but keep museum, gift, and request items separate before confirming a batch.
Buy a home Kitchen when the route justifies it
Check the Carpenter for a home Kitchen when you want to cook without visiting the Inn. Kitchen level and personal Cooking skill are separate checks: a higher kitchen does not bypass a skill requirement, and skill does not bypass the kitchen requirement.
If the Kitchen is not listed, check Cooking skill, Town Rank, building progress, and the current shop inventory. Buy the level that covers your actual recipes before spending materials on an upgrade you cannot use yet.
Unlock the recipe before troubleshooting the dish
Recipes can come from shops, requests, rewards, and letters. If a dish never appears, confirm that its recipe is unlocked before blaming the ingredients; crop names alone are not enough to infer a recipe.
When a known recipe is still locked, check Cooking skill, Kitchen level, and whether the ingredients are in eligible storage. After an update, back up the save and test without a recipe or storage mod before reporting a clean-client problem.
A cooking loop that protects rare materials
Check the recipe and kitchen requirements before placing ingredients. Keep the first fish, seasonal crop, museum item, and request material aside until their other uses are clear.
Use reliable low-risk recipes for skill progress, and judge a dish by ingredients, time, stamina recovery, gifts, and sale value together. The highest sale price is not always the best use of a rare item.
When a recipe will not cook
Check that the recipe is unlocked, Cooking and Kitchen levels meet the requirement, and the materials are in a readable chest or inventory. A lock icon usually names a missing condition rather than an input mistake.
If every condition is met, exit and reopen the kitchen, then test without Mods that alter recipes or storage. Record the version, recipe, kitchen level, and material list before reporting a clean-client reproduction.
