Marriage: ring, proposal and wedding

Go from eight hearts to a wedding: both ring recipes, the mine and heart-event requirements, relationship settings and available dates for your ceremony.

Light spoiler noticeThis page mentions relationship, collection, or unlock conditions without reproducing full story dialogue.

Direct answer

Start dating at a candidate’s eight-heart event, reach ten hearts, read Elsie’s ring recipe and craft an Engagement Ring. Its Dragon-Forged Core requires the floor-100 tablet quest and completed eight-heart events with Eiland and Juniper. Check your relationship settings before confirming the proposal.

Dating + 10 hearts

Choose a partner and reach ten hearts

The candidates are Adeline, Balor, Celine, Eiland, Hayden, Juniper, March, Reina, Ryis and Valen, plus Caldarus and Seridia as the story unfolds. Finish your chosen character’s earlier heart events, then choose Dating at eight hearts and keep building friendship to ten.

Elsie sends the Engagement Ring recipe the following morning after you reach ten hearts. Collect the letter and use the recipe scroll: owning an unread scroll does not unlock crafting. If the letter has not arrived, first confirm that you are dating and have reached ten hearts.

Craft the ring at a regular forge

You need Blacksmithing level 30 and the learned recipe. Use a normal Forge/Anvil after making the core below. Base crafting time is 40 in-game minutes; perks can shorten it.

Make the Dragon-Forged Core first

Reach floor 100 and progress The Dragonsworn Tablet. Complete Eiland’s and Juniper’s eight-heart events, talk to Juniper and read the tablet to unlock the core recipe. Eight hearts without the completed events is not enough.

Use the Dragon Forge on floor 90, with Blacksmithing level 30. Base crafting time is 50 minutes. Including the ingot inside the core, one ring costs five Mistril Ingots in total. If you cannot reach these floors, continue the mine seals and both characters’ event chains before gathering ring materials. Caldarus additionally requires the Final Seal; that is not a universal proposal requirement.

Set relationship preferences before proposing

By default, getting engaged changes other Dating relationships to Best Friends. These options become available in Gameplay after the engagement tutorial cutscene. Gameplay settings contain two separate choices: hiding the associated letters and preventing Dating relationships from changing. Hiding letters alone does not preserve a relationship.

Enable the option that prevents the relationship change before the final engagement confirmation if that is what you want. Make a separate save beforehand if you want to revisit the decision; changing the setting afterward is not a guaranteed way to restore prior relationships.

Discuss marriage, then confirm or wait

Hold the Engagement Ring and interact with your ten-heart partner to select Discuss. This begins their ten-heart scene. You can postpone at the final decision instead of proposing immediately. Before confirming, check the partner, settings and save you intend to keep.

The discussion can be repeated before the final proposal, letting you see the scene and receive its special item without immediately committing. A missing Discuss option calls for checking Dating status, ten hearts and the equipped ring first.

Choose an available wedding date

The earliest date is five days after the proposal. Festival restrictions apply; Spring 14, Fall 7 and Winter 7 are also unavailable following patch 1.0.3. Choose an offered date in the wedding calendar rather than calculating five days and assuming that date is selectable.

Use the days before the ceremony to finish time-sensitive gifts, crops or collecting. You do not need to spend these days repeating the proposal.

How to have a child after the wedding

Having a child is optional. Finish the wedding first, then use the Mystical Feather to start the family conversation yourself. Your spouse will not ask on their own, and you can postpone the decision during the conversation.

The family route begins with a gifted feather. You do not need to buy or craft a cradle beforehand: Landen sends one after the baby arrives.

  1. After 14 in-game days of marriage, go to bed to meet the Great Bird in a dream. The Mystical Feather appears in your inventory when you wake up.
  2. Hold the Mystical Feather and interact with your spouse to discuss starting a family. Confirm when ready, or choose to wait.
  3. After you confirm, go to bed. In the next dream, you and your spouse meet the Great Bird and choose how the baby will arrive.
  4. Wait 14 in-game days after that second dream. The due date appears on your calendar; the waiting period starts from the second dream, not from receiving the feather.
Note

Missing feather after the dream? Check your inventory and home. Patch 1.0.2 fixed a full-inventory bug that dropped it in the Dragonsworn Glade instead of at home; update before following advice written for that bug.

Choose who carries the baby

The Great Bird offers these choices in the second dream. Your selected pronouns do not prevent your character from carrying the baby. Caldarus and Seridia also have children through this family route.

  • With any spouse: ask the Great Bird to bring the baby, so neither partner needs to be pregnant.
  • With any spouse: choose to carry the baby yourself, regardless of your pronouns or your spouse’s gender.
  • With Adeline, Celine, Juniper, Reina, Seridia or Valen: you can also ask your spouse to carry the baby. This choice is not offered for male spouses.

Pregnancy request: A Craving

If your spouse carries the baby, her pregnancy can bring the heart quest A Craving at the farm. The requested dish depends on your spouse. This is a pregnancy event, after the family decision; it is not the request that unlocks having a child.

What your pregnant spouse requests
SpouseDish
AdelineLemon Pie
CelineSpring Salad
JuniperPizza
ReinaIce Cream Sundae
SeridiaIce Cream Sundae
ValenGrilled Cheese

Baby care, appearance and the first birthday

At birth you can choose the baby’s name or accept your spouse’s suggestion. Each spouse has a fixed child design and gender, with a lighter or darker skin-tone variation based on your character. Naming the baby does not let you select a different gender or appearance.

Your spouse carries the baby while following their usual schedule. You can take the baby from them and keep farming, fishing or exploring without losing your normal abilities. Landen mails the Baby Cradle after the birth; place it at home when you want to leave the baby there. The cradle is a gift, with no purchase price or crafting materials to prepare.

In version 1.0.5 you can have one child, who remains an infant. The first birthday does not turn the baby into a toddler or unlock a second child.

Parent is earned by having a child. Time Flies is for reaching that child’s first birthday, not your wedding anniversary or your own birthday. Continue the save toward the baby’s birthday; if the achievement does not unlock, update to 1.0.5, which includes a Time Flies fix, and check Steam again. A missing achievement is not a reason to start a new family or replace your save.
